Rony Gao

Rony Gao is a prize-winning language professional and experienced educator based in Toronto and serving clients worldwide. He is a member of AIIC (International Association of Conference Interpreters), which embodies the highest standards of quality and ethics in interpreting.

Having spent extensive time studying and working in both China and North America, Rony brings unique experience and competence in interpretation, translation, training and cross-cultural communication. He studied marketing and international business before discovering his passion for interpreting, and later went on to earn a Master of Conference Interpreting (MCI) degree from Glendon College of York University and a Master of Arts in Conference Interpretation (MACI) degree from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.

As a Chinese/English conference interpreter accredited by the Translation Bureau of the Canadian Federal Government, Rony has provided simultaneous and consecutive interpretation for the Chinese Premier and State Council Delegation to Canada, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, several UN specialized agencies, the Tokyo Olympic Games, Chinese ambassador to Canada, Mayor of Toronto, and many other leaders in government, business, technology and education. In 2021, he won first prize in the Chinese-English Simultaneous Interpreting Invitational Tournament at the 10th International Translation and Interpretation Competition organized by Beijing Language and Culture University.

As one of the most sought-after test preparation experts in Canada and beyond, Rony has taught over 10,000 students preparing for standardized tests such as the GMAT, GRE, SAT, SSAT, ACT and TOEFL, paving their way into Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Cornell and other renowned academic institutions. Among Rony's students are CEOs, government officials, Olympians, executives of Fortune 500 companies, and many students and young professionals seeking to advance their academic pursuits. He contributed to Cleverlands: The Secrets Behind the Success of the World's Education Superpowers, which was named book of the year (2016) by The Economist.

When not teaching or interpreting, Rony is passionately devoted to promoting cultural and educational exchange as a force for good. He co-founded the Toronto Interpreters Practice group and has given presentations and workshops at various conferences and events in Italy, the United States, Canada, China, and Mexico.
